Weapons of the Second World War: Armored trains

At the time of the outbreak of World War I, armored trains were used only by the German and Russian armies. In June 1915, the German army had 5 trains, and at the turn of 1916-1917, another one was built. By the end of the First World War, there were already 21 armored trains in it. The orders of the Treaty of Versailles forbade Germany to have trains. They were transferred to England and France. In April 1921, the German Railways received the approval of the Allied Control Commission for the production and commissioning of trains to ensure the safety of railways, whose task was to protect railway tracks. The echelons were armed with Maxim MG 08 and 08/15 7.92 mm machine guns. After Hitler came to power, the situation changed. In 1938, by order of the OKH (Oberkommando Der Heeres), it was decided to re-equip seven trains. In the end, the armament was reinforced in only 4 echelons, supplementing the MG 08 machine guns with two 75 mm LELG 18 cannons. The trains converted in this way were named Kampfzug. German armored trains participated, among other things, in the September campaign, the campaign in the West in 1940 and the campaign in the East in 1941-1944.
Below I cite only a few types of armored trains that participated in the battles.:
Panzerzug No 1,
Mobilized on April 26, 1939. The train was operated in the Netherlands in 1940, as well as during the first stage of the attack on the USSR. In 1942, it was damaged by bombing. From December 1942 to August 1943, the train underwent modernization. He returned to service in 1944. On June 27, 1944, after the partisans cut the road, his own crew blew him up.
Panzerzug No 2
On August 26, 1939, the train was handed over to a technical team, and on September 8, 1939, it was ready for combat. In 1941-1942, the train operated in the USSR, and in 1944 it was transferred to Army Group Center in the Smolensk region. In the same year, the train was removed from the front for modernization, which was not completed until the end of the war.
Panzerzug No 3
He appeared on July 5, 1939. The train was badly damaged during operation in Poland. In the west, he defended the German-Dutch border, then participated in the fighting in Flanders. It was modernized in 1941-1942. On October 10, the Germans blew it up because they were cut off from their troops.
Panzerzug No 4
It was commissioned on August 11, 1939. He was active in Poland and on the Eastern Front. It was modernized from 1943 to 1945. In May 1945, the crew of this tank surrendered.
Panzerzug No 5
He was mobilized in August 1939. Decommissioned on May 10, 1940 due to damage during the fighting in the Netherlands.
Panzerzug No 6
Transferred to the crew on June 10, 1939. He took part in battles in Poland, and in 1941-1942 he operated in the northern part of the Eastern Front. Later he was transferred to the Balkans, took part in battles in Croatia. It was upgraded in 1942. It was destroyed on October 1, 1944 in Hungary.
